Hearing the words “human trafficking” is one thing. Hearing the dreadful stories of survivors and understanding how serious and abhorrent this problem is in our world, and even our region of the country, is another. The statistics are staggering, and the lives of people, frequently minors, are being destroyed daily by this $150 billion industry. According to the U.S. Department of State 2020 Trafficking In Persons report, nearly 25 million victims worldwide are being denied their own freedom. Amidst the horror, there is good news. Professional drivers have an opportunity to make the call that could save lives and lead to the rescue of survivors of human trafficking. Truckers Against Trafficking (TAT) is a nonprofit organization that trains truck drivers to recognize and report instances of human trafficking.
CTS has incorporated TAT videos into our quarterly safety training program in an effort to increase awareness within our driver base. We will continue to do our part to educate our fleet about the potential opportunities that may arise while being out on the roads.
If you or someone you know witnesses signs of trafficking, please call the National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline at 1-888-3737-888 or local law enforcement to report your tip.
